Step Up Construction is owned and operated by Inner City Youth Alive. The core staff have extensive construction experience to ensure all projects are done to the very best quality.

When you hire Step Up Construction as your renovator/contractor you will be helping provide employment to inner city youth and young adults seeking a healthy path forward.
Our core staff work with each participant to ensure they receive on-site training and assistance off the worksite.

By working with and hiring the Step Up Construction crew you are supporting key training for the participants:

Basic math skills to help candidates develop the ability to use a tape measure add to do basic on the job math skills

Help establishing long term goals as it relates to the construction industry. Helping youth to decide about entering into a certification program at Red River Community College

How to conduct a successful interview with future employer

WHMIS, Workplace safety, First Aid/CPR, Safety Training: Fall Protection, personal protective equipment, hands on safe power tool use training

Conflict management and parenting skills

Money Management

Cultural Programming

Many of the youth and young adults that we work with never leave the North End and therefore their only picture of life is the one they see in their community. The result is that many youths, when asked about their future career path, point to the possibility of being police officers, teachers, or social workers. These are all noble and valuable professions; however, these are often the only professionals that kids and youth view, so that is what they aspire to be.

We believe having a business-like social enterprise in our community will help youth to imagine the possibility of going to work in the trades or business owners. It is our belief that a reputable work skills program will offer a picture of a new potential employment path for our community.
